Tips & Techniques from P K Glitz

TIPS !
1. Did you know you can Powder Emboss metal items WITHOUT pigment inking them? True! Hold the item with a clothespin (so as not to burn
your fingers), heat thoroughly with heat tool. Dip into powder. (If the metal item doesn't pick up any powder when dipped, it isn't hot enough.) If
metal item is super hot, the powder will stick, melt and gloss immediately. If it's not totally glossy, simply add a little more heat until all powder is
melted. This is great on brads, and other small metal embellishments that you want to compliment your art.
2. Powder Keg Embossing Powders are acid free and can be used in Scrapbook Art also.
3. Think of your embossing powders just like ink colors. Using a color wheel will help you determine which colors compliment one another best.
Our 4-Stacks are put together in this way, so that you can interchange them for maximum color POW!
4. Anti-static Powder to the rescue! If you have ever had embossing powder residue left behind on a card in areas you didn't want it, anti-static
powder may be your answer. This is a very fine powder, in either a jar or pouch form, that you dust across your work just prior to stamping your
image with pigment ink. The powder forms a barrier that discourages embossing powder sticking anywhere you do not want it to be.
6. Need a "seal" but don't have any wax on hand? Hot glue is the answer. Melt a small puddle where you would like the seal and while hot,
sprinkle embossing powder color of choice on glue (it will melt right in). Stamp with pre-inked stamp, let cool then remove stamp. These can also
be made on foil and saved for use as needed.
5. Faux Metal Mesh can be achieved using drywall mesh (purchased by the roll at the hardware store), pigment ink (I like clear) and Powder Keg
Embossing Powders. Simply lay the mesh, sticky side down, on paper..... coat with clear pigment ink directly from the pad...... dust liberally with
embossing powder..... pull up from paper and lightly knock off excess..... and heat with heat tool. The product will melt VERY QUICKLY so be
careful. By using metallic powders you can have silver, gold, bronze, copper and etc. colors of mesh for all your art projects.
7. Cards can be made in minutes with our new "Powder Keg Sticky Paper" and our new ultra fine glitters. Watch "Classes" for a class location near
you. It's loads of fun!
Enameling Technique
Supplies Needed:
Clear Embossing Ink PK Glitz Embossing Powders PK Glitz Anti-Static Powder & Brush Cardstock Sea Sponge
Instructions:
1. The first color in your "recipe" is always applied covering the entire paper (or object). Take your clear embossing ink and rub it
over the entire object. Then dust with the first color, knock off excess powder and heat to set.
2. Next dab the sea sponge in clear embossing ink and randomly pounce lightly on piece. Drizzle on second color of powder.
(You do not want to over coat card with second and subsequent colors). Knock off excess. Heat to set.
3. Continue adding color with "sea sponge method", randomly adding powder and heating to set each time.
4. Your next to last color will be your "highlight color". This is the color set behind your stamp to accent it.
TIP: Be VERY sparing with any metallic powders you use. They like to "hog the show" and will take over a card or piece if you let
them.
5. Just before stamping your image that will be covered with black powder, dust card lightly but coveringly with anti-static powder.
This will allow the black powder to stick only where you want it to. :)
6. Last, generously load your stamp with the pigment ink and stamp image, being careful not to slide it as you are working on a
slick surface. Pour on the black powder and knock off excess. If you accidentally smudge your image, you can wipe the powder
off at this point and repeat Instructions 5 & 6 again. when you achieve the image you want, heat your black powder. M&M (Melt
and Move). As soon as it glosses, move on. If you stay in one place too long it will fade into your previous colors.
TIP: Be sure your heat tool is hot before setting your powder. A warm heat tool simply warps your CS and will cause your colors
to blend more than you would like.
Sticky Paper Pictures
Supplies Needed:
PK Glitz Sticky Paper PK Micro Glitter Glitz Metal Stencils Coffee Filters Small Spoon
Instructions:
1. Pour your glitters into round "coffee filters". You will find it much easier to work out of these and when you are through your
glitter will pour easily back into the jar. Also apply glitters with a small spoon or straw cut on a diagonal.
2. Cut your PK Glitz Sticky Paper 1/4" larger all around than your metal stencil and gently remove the backing.
3. Lay your clean metal stencil on the "sticky" side of the paper.
4. Apply PK Glitz Micro Glitter to outer edge first. This will "kill" the edge and keep the colors that you will use later on the center
part of the stencil from discoloring your edge.
5. After coloring the edge of your piece, begin adding colors to the center until you have completely covered all areas exposed.
6. TIP Be sure, after each application of glitter, to softly brush the excess back into your working container.
7. Tap off any excess glitter and now peel the paper from the metal stencil by gently pulling them apart. Hold the stencil down
tightly to the table as you pull up the paper. This keeps you from bending the stencil. If you have difficulty removing the paper
from the stencil, TIP try using a little bar soap on the stencil before laying it on the sticky paper.
8. After removing paper from stencil, pour your crystal or white pearl glitter over the entire piece covering any area that is still
sticky. This will complete your picture.
9. Using glue stick or other adhesive, mount picture to cardstock and embellish as you like.

Embossed and Glittered Brads (See Card above)
Supplies Needed:
Metal brads PK Glitz Embossing Powder PK Micro Glitter Glitz
Instructions:
1. Heat a metal brad with your heat tool for approximately 3 seconds. Immediately dip into clear (or colored) embossing powder. If the powder immediately becomes
shiny, dip it quickly into your P K Glitz Art Glitter. If it is a little granular" looking, reheat the brad from its back side until the embossing powder is shiny (molten) and then
dip quickly into your glitter. Set aside to cool.
How to Use "Heat Activated Glue"
Using pigment ink, stamp image on paper. Pour on powdered glue and lightly heat until it becomes clear. Add glitter, EP, beads, etc. Brush lightly to remove excess.
Best results are obtained if you add product within 15-20 seconds.
TIP! If using light colored cardstock, an application of PK Glitz Anti-Static Powder before stamping with your embossing ink will keep unwanted specks of glitter from
sticking to your paper.
P K Glitz Palette Painting
Supplies Needed:
P K Glitz Embossing Powders Anti-Static Powder Heat Tool
Instructions:
1. Always prepare lighter colored CS with Anti-Static Powder by brushing it over entire surface before stamping with clear embossing ink.
Stamp your image onto cardstock.
2. When applying first color, insure embossing powder is applied in a circular flow thereby avoiding straight lines of powder.
3. Apply the first layer of embossing powder at the base of the stamped image and knock off remaining powder away from exposed or
un-powdered section of stamped image.
4. Apply second color of embossing powder over first layer and exposed inked area leaving enough inked area for third, fourth and fifth
embossing powder applications. The stamped image should now be totally covered with embossing powder.
5. Using a dry brush, remove any dots of spots of undesired powder before applying heat.
6. With heat gun, melt embossing powder image.
7. At this point, a second stamped image may be applied. Before applying second stamped image, reapply anti-static powder and repeat
steps above.
TIPS
Avoid contaminating embossing powder by replacing unused powder in containers after each application.
Stamp Pad must be loaded with ink before each stamping.
Always use anti-static powder before each stamping.
Heat Gun should be "focused" (small nozzle diameter) not "hair dryer" type.
For best results, use a minimum of five embossing powder colors against your choice of cardstock.
Ritzy Ditzy Glitz
Ritzy Ditzy Glitz is an instant shimmer for your medium to darker color cardstocks and matt surfaces. To use:
SHAKE WELL - Be sure that all color is ;mixed from the bottom of the bottle.

does not work well on thinner scrapbook paper.)
